Millennium Energy Industries (MEI) has been awarded in January of 2010 the contract to design, build, commission and provide initial maintenance for the largest solar district hot water project in the world, for the Princess Noura Bint Abdurrahman University for Women Project (PNUW) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The solar system, comprised of more than 36,000 sqm of roof mounted large scale collectors, has a total capacity of approximately 25 MW thermal of hot water capacity for the purpose of district heating at the 8 square kilometer campus for 40,000 students, faculty and staff. MEI delivered the solar solution which included design, build and integration with over 1,000,000 liters of thermal storage capacity, integration with approximately 75MW thermal conventional boilers including a design and customization of the monitoring and controls system. The solar system provides significant savings on fuel consumption in compliance with LEED Platinum certification standards.
